Bosherston Lily Pools Walk – A Peaceful Wander Through Wales’ Waterside Sanctuary
A calm and quietly beautiful walk through the Bosherston Lily Pools, one of Pembrokeshire’s most tranquil and atmospheric landscapes. Surrounded by still water, dense woodland, and gently arching bridges, this wander captures the soothing charm of a place shaped by both nature and centuries of estate history.
🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore
The Lily Pools were created in the 18th and 19th centuries as part of the Stackpole Estate, engineered to form a chain of interconnected lakes that now feel utterly timeless. As you follow the paths around the pools, the reflections are almost mirror-perfect — water lilies resting on the surface like scattered porcelain and reeds whispering whenever the breeze stirs. In summer, the pools bloom into vast carpets of lilies, but even out of season they hold a quiet grace, with herons, swans, and dragonflies adding to the sense of seclusion.
Stone bridges and narrow causeways cross the water, offering sweeping views down the length of each pool. These old walkways were once part of the estate’s formal grounds, designed for leisurely promenades, and they still carry that gentle, unhurried feel today. The surrounding woodland adds texture and depth to the walk — twisting trees, mossy banks, and pockets of stillness where the only sound is the soft ripple of water.
