Books are my Social Life (musahobooks) | Books by Trinbagonian Authors (part two) @booksaremysociallife | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
Today I continue a series on my channel that I started four years ago with one video and NEVER CONTINUED! This is part two of recommending books set in Trinidad and Tobago (and its diaspora). These recommendations are all great places to start if you're looking to get into Trinidadian/Tobagonian fiction or Caribbean literature in general.
I start off with a young adult romance novel set in Tobago, Where the Rhythm Takes You by Sarah Dass. I then recommend Hungry Ghosts, Kevin Jared Hosein's recent acclaimed novel - a historical fiction thriller set in rural 1940s Trinidad. I also recommend two books set in the Trini-Canadian diaspora: Polar Vortex by Shani Mootoo and Brother by David Chariandy. Finally, I recommend two Trinidadian classics: Miguel Street by V.S. Naipaul and The Jumbie Bird by Ismith Khan.
