Exploring the Public Domain Read Along
hosts: @marlicias_meanderings @GenreBooks23 @tahlia__nerds_out
Time Frame: January 1, 2026 through February 28, 2026
The purpose of this read along is to search out authors and their works which have fallen into public domain and are running the risk of being forgotten or altered. It is the perfect opportunity to try new, or forgotten/neglected authors at little or no cost. The read along will run from January 1, 2026-through February 28, 2026.
We also have a StoryGraph challenge: app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/1463bbf1-dda6-49b4-8f91-00db01128958
This can be a wide open read along in terms of genres and time periods (and can double with many other alongs you might be involved with), but if you’d like to challenge yourself a little perhaps try to read from one or more genres or time periods. A few examples follow, but are not exhaustive.
For a book to be in the public domain means its copyright has expired, its creator relinquished rights, or it never had copyright, making it free for anyone to use, copy, adapt, or distribute without needing permission or paying royalties, essentially belonging to everyone to build upon for new creative works or simple access, like classic novels or government documents.
