If you think Pike Place is just fish tossers and flower stalls, think again...it can be a fun spot for readers and book lovers too. 📍 Indie bookstores I visited: Pine Books – This lower-level gem is lovely to behold and the stock is Lamplight Books – This cozy shop is a hidden gem specializing in literary fiction and has a deep nonfiction section. The dollar cart outside the store is fun to peruse. Loved seeing the stack of Murakami and Lovecraft on the cash register counter! Left Bank Books Collective – This entirely worker-owned, political bookstore is right out in the thick of street activity. If nothing else, go to look at all the stickers and pamphlets and pins plastering the interior walls. If you grew up in the 80s, you remember the assignment: a handwritten book report on lined paper, maybe with a flimsy plastic cover and a hand-drawn illustration and title page. Ill walk through my reread of this sweeping multigenerational story of the Cleary family. Weve got forbidden love, the Australian outback, Father Ralph de Bricassart, Meggie, and all the heartbreak, and a proper old-school book report, scrapbook-style to go with it.
