When you just want to watch your books as a TV show…
Somewhat off topic from my usual posts... but I get so frustrated by how entertainment studios approach art these days.
The AMPTP isn't looking to create meaningful stories. They aren't looking to elevate important voices. They aren't wanting to make positive social impact.
They just want money...
and in chasing money they miss the fact that what makes money is meaningful stories, important new voices, social impact, and trusting artists.
So for the record, virtually every wildly successful book adaptation into film or TV has held true to the source material - the further from the source material, the poorer these projects often do. The one exception is when the book is used purely as inspiration and the adaptation is not marketed as an adaptation - like Die Hard.
