My friend CJ, formerly a member of two mighty Manchester bands, Fruit Tones and Gold Cup, is the kind of restless soul who never likes staying in one place for too long. Always chasing change and ready to deal with whatever comes with it. That's exactly what "Next Stop," the first taste of Body Suit, is all about: "about wanting to get out of a place or a rut that you've been stuck in for years and all the risks and changes that come along with doing that." But there's more to it than that. As CJ puts it, "It's also an ode to the oddballs you see and meet in the streets, who cross through your life and add a sprinkle of mystery or humour or entertainment to your day. Thank god for them!"
With that mindset, CJ must have figured that if he was going to go somewhere new, he might as well go all the way to the other side of the world. That's how he ended up in Australia, which, whether by chance or something deeper, feels like the perfect breeding ground for his particular understanding of music. Hit play and you'll get exactly what I mean within seconds: "Yeah, Next Stop is about wanting to try something or somewhere new. I love Manchester but it's my hometown and I had been there for so long I wanted to try somewhere else on for size. So I'm in Melbourne for a while now! Body Suit is a solo thing for songs that didn't really fit anywhere else. And it was started so I could have a play around with a tape recorder I had."
