Globally, biometric data practices are entrenched as promissory notes of assurance to alleviate the administrative anxieties of aid and welfare programs. In this talk, Assistant Professor Preeti Mudliar draws on ethnographic work coupled with data obtained through a right to information
application on India’s biometric linked food security process, to direct attention to children’s presence in the biometric welfare state. She shows how children’s bodies, their time, and their natural acquiescence to adults are essential for the biometric infrastructure to function.
