A little colourful head was showing at the nest hole high up on a tall deciduous tree lining a dirt track deep in the primary forest. I was delighted to identify it as a Blue-eared Barbet. As I continued to observe this nesting, it flew off suddenly. Out of the blues, its partner flew in right into the nest hole. It appeared to be a change of duties among this pair of barbets, either in incubating or in brooding newborn chicks. Nesting activity was sluggish though. Once, one of the parent was observed clearing waste material. But no feeding was observed, so it could well be just a nesting in the incubation stage.
Blue-eared Barbets are residents of mainland Southeast Asia, eastern Nepal and northeast India.
