Bluebird written by Charles Bukowski, is an interesting poem, because it is based on the real situation that the author lived, due to his condition in front of the society. The composition exposes what an individual flocks in order to suppress the tough weight it represents to hide his real self from others by smoking, drinking, and spending money on prostitution.
In the end, "Blue bird" was his desperate scream embodied as a limerick to proclaim how vulnerable and insecure, he really was. The softness beneath in the layers of hurt and anger he amassed during his life were perhaps partially release with each word he wrote to compose the poem. In spite of his hard experiences during his whole life, he became a majestic and controversial poet due to his extraordinary style of writing. It teaches us that we should express the true feelings that are inside of our hearts. This is a unique way to face our fears and be accepted for who we really are.
When one hears Bukowski reading the poem, one can’t help but process his or her own insecurities and fears.

There's a bluebird in my heart
that wants to get out but
I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay in there,
I'm not going to let
anybody see you.
There's a bluebird in my heart
that wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him
and inhale cigarette smoke
and the whores
and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that he's in there.
There's a bluebird in my heart
that wants to get out but
I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down,
do you want to mess me up?
You want to screw up the works?
You want to blow my book sales in Europe?
There's a bluebird in my heart
that wants to get out but
I'm too clever,
I only let him out at night
sometimes when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be sad.
Then I put him back,
but he's singing a little in there,
I haven't quite let him die
and we sleep together
like that with our secret pact
and it's nice enough
to make a man weep,
but I don't weep,
do you?
