Replacing the blower motor resistor unit in a Toyota Yaris Mk2 from years 2005 to 2013. A blower motor resistor is an electrical component in a vehicle's AC system that regulates the speed of the blower fan. It allows you to select different airflow speeds (e.g., low, medium, and high) by controlling the amount of electrical current sent to the blower motor. If this resistor unit fails, the fan might only come on at certain dial speed settings, or not at all.
Common Symptoms of Failure:
Fan only works on High: This is the most common sign. If the lower resistance settings burn out, only the direct high-speed bypass circuit remains functional.
Specific speeds are missing: You may find that settings 1 and 2 don't work, but 3 and 4 do.
No air at all: A complete failure or short in the resistor can cut off power to the blower motor entirely.
Burning smell: Overheating can melt the plastic connector or wiring, leading to a distinct electrical burning odour.
**NOTE: Depending on whether the car is a left-hand or right-hand drive model, you may not need to remove the lower panel to access the blower resistor module.
