In the middle of the night, after finishing the overview of Computer Science for the 25th anniversary party, I stayed up and made this quick and dirty blooper reel. A fun party. Isaac Asimov was the speaker. We had TVs set up to play all the various videos, but this blooper reel was surrounded 8 deep. They were such wonderful people to work with.
I came to IBM Research to work on Lisp, but talked the director into giving me something more fun. So they trained me and gave me an international multimedia magazine. That first gentleman was not an IBMer, just someone from my first video class. But all the rest were the best and the brightest. Some loved the camera and some hated it, but they all stuck with it until we had takes as good as we could do to showcase their work. It was a most magnificent time with the most magnificent people. The most well known person there is Fran Allen, winner of a Turing Award, being followed with a phalanx of steadicam people. That building was the Yorktown Heights lab, built by Eero Saarinen from stones quarried from the IBM property.
Another "moment in time" video for me is the memory of a day I spent as Secretary of the X3J13 Common Lisp group. Remembering what it was like to spend an entire day in a meeting on a computer topic with some of the best people in the field. To me, they will always be this young.
