First step to getting this gesture is to gain access to the Hypogean Gaol.

The earliest way to get there is to be kidnapped by a Bodysnatcher outside the Cathedral Ward ( once one of them appears )

From the Gaol you can defeat Darkbeast Paarl and gain rear access to Old Yarnham, this is the key to being able to speak to Djura the hunter without him being mad at you.

There are a few theories and speculation about not having to defeat Paarl, but this was the method that worked for me.
