URGENT statement on Mayo University Hospital
A mother has come forward with shocking revelations about the mistreatment of patients at Mayo University Hospital (MUH), confirming once again what we have been highlighting for many months.
Speaking on Midwest Radio Sheila Moffat described her horrific experience at MUH in Castlebar after she broke regulations and forced her way into the hospital where her 22-year-old son was abandoned in a private room.
- Appalling conditions: wet sheets, blood and vomit on the floors
- “Fobbed off” by staff when she raised concerns; nurses repeatedly told Ms Moffat that her son was fine - though he lay critically ill on a bed nearby
- Refused to leave: when the 22-year-old’s parents refused to leave his bedside, Sheila said “every type of person you could imagine was brought to meet us”, attempting to get the family to exit the hospital
- Turning point: only when the family refused to leave did their son’s situation begin to improve; Sheila told Midwest Radio that “if we hadn’t forced our way into the hospital … we wouldn’t be where we are today”.
Since March 2020, patients have died in suspicious and unacceptable circumstances at Mayo University Hospital - cut off from family and loved ones. One of these was Sally Maaz, a 17-year-old who lost her life after being placed in a ‘Covid ward’ at MUH and given a powerful drug that caused clotting, choking and vomiting.
We have been protesting for over 15 months on the scandal of the gagging of the staff at MUH. In March 2020, all staff at MUH were threatened by Manager Catherine Donohoe with disciplinary action if any of them spoke about “hospital business” outside of the hospital.
Patients are in grave danger in Mayo University Hospital - where the staff are gagged and family are banned from visiting.
Deaths from gross criminal neglect are being recorded as ‘Covid deaths’ and bereaved families are left with no answers as to why their loved ones died.
Our elected representatives are silent on the gagging of staff Mayo University Hospital. Not one councillor, including Michael Kilcoyne (who sits on HSE Forum West), has questioned the HSE on this issue. Rose Conway-Walsh TD and Sinn Féin, the so-called ‘Opposition’, have maintained a sinister silence on what is happening.
We strongly encourage you to contact your local representative and demand that they address the issue of the gagging of the staff. Mayo University Hospital belongs not to Catherine Donohoe or the HSE, but to all of us. Your taxpayers money pays the wages of our nurses, doctors and consultants.
To be afraid to present at MUH, as many thousands are, is shameful and utterly unacceptable.
