On May 6 2020, Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan was asked at the daily press briefing by Jemima Burke if people who test negative for Covid-19 were put into Covid wards.
The question was asked in the context of the tragic death of Sally Maaz (17) at Mayo University Hospital. Sally was put into a Covid ward despite twice testing negative for the virus and died some days later.
Tony Holohan repeatedly claimed that Covid patients and non-Covid patients were not mixed in hospitals. He said that the line of questioning from Jemima Burke would give rise to 'unfounded' fears.
Days later on May 20, RTÉ Drivetime reported on Covid patients being 'scattered all over the hospital' at Mayo University Hospital.
The man who did all in his power to stifle an investigation into the Cervical Check Scandal lied to the only journalist who challenged him with the truth about what is happening in our hospitals.
Scores of the most vulnerable and helpless in our society have needlessly lost their lives. Its high time that Tony Holohan was held to account.
