The Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is an international citizen science-driven census and conservation effort that began over a century ago to protect birds and their habitat. Every winter, between December 14 and January 5, thousands of volunteers count birds in their area for one day, and the information that is gathered is added to a global database used by scientists to assess bird populations and ecosystems. The results of the national count are published every year by the Audubon Society. In Kanab, Utah, youth participate as citizen scientists and count birds in their town's 15-mile circle!
