Game Science just dropped around 15 minutes of new Black Myth: Zhong Kui gameplay, and this looks like a major evolution from Wukong. The footage appears to show much larger, less linear environments, possible mount-based traversal, expanded combat with blocking, parrying, dodging, throwables, elemental weapon effects, and even supernatural summons that may be controllable during combat. The biggest mystery is who exactly we’re playing as, because the character shown doesn’t immediately resemble the Zhong Kui from the original reveal, but the ability to command supernatural entities could still tie directly into Zhong Kui’s mythology. Either way, this doesn’t look like Game Science simply making Wukong again with a new protagonist — it looks like they’re taking everything that worked and opening the entire formula up.
