Thousands of demonstrators block traffic in Washington, DC, protesting the judiciary's inability, in various court cases, to hold police accountable for murders, brutality, and abuse. It's time for the judiciary to hold police accountable when they are bad actors. The problem is that the police, with help from "internal police investigators" and their unions, are well-rehearsed actors despite - seemingly video evidence to the contrary. That is correct - what is billed as an "internal police investigation", is no better then gathering evidence to clear a fellow officer while suppressing evidence to the contrary. The courts, in most jurisdictions, are no better. The District Attorney (DA), who is supposed to prosecute the government case against an officer, depends daily on the evidence collected by the police in regular criminal cases. The DA's win-and-lose career record relies on the strength of the police presentation - with plenty of examples of DAs using what they know to be false evidence and confessions manufactured by the police to strengthen the case. The conflict of interest and built-in bias taint all instances regardless of guilt or innocence. It's time for an independent judiciary to hold the police and the courts accountable when they are bad actors. So people are pissed and take to the streets
