Black Dog is a masterclass in how to make a pentatonic riff feel like so much more than just a scale run. It's built around the A minor pentatonic extended scale, but what gives it that extra bite is one chromatic passing note on the D string that adds just enough grit to make the whole riff feel unpredictable.
