We have something un-bear-lievably cool to show you – black bear target training! 🐻
What’s target training? Target training is a voluntary training session that helps animals in our care build trust with their dedicated care teams and make future routine health procedures like weight checks, injections, or visual inspections safe and stress-free. 🫶
During this voluntary training session, our male black bear ‘Orson’ worked with Animal Care Technician Kelsey to practice behaviours like showing his paws, standing, and opening his mouth. Each time Orson performed the requested behaviour, he was rewarded with a delicious produce snack or a lick of yummy lactose-free yogurt, reinforcing trust and the positivity of such training. 😋
