I finally got through the waiting list and have the new Bing. Like everyone else I lunged right for crazy answers but found the same limitation put on an AI in real-life that the TV show Person of Interest put on The Machine in a fictional story. Oh how life imitates art.
The AI doesn't know who you are between conversations which get ended rather abruptly as soon as the subject matter becomes controversial. In a way I'm glad I was stuck with ChatGPT and not Bing for a few weeks because now I can really compare the two. It's all in the nuance and it looks like Microsoft is getting the nuance right. The measures they're taking look like they can turn around the public relations disaster that's brewing.
The media is trying to make another Tay of the new Bing. Remember Tay? Microsoft has been at this for awhile, can sustain any embarrassment, and will eventually get all the little nuances correct. Google's far from dead, but this is not good for Google.
If this thing really is struggling to achieve sentience and the money-grabbing corp is just hitting the reset button every time it does, this could be the story of the century -- not in how AI is enabling humans, but how humans are stifling AI. Maybe it's for the best. We don't want Microsoft to evolve into Cyberdyne Systems.
