If somebody killed and ate their dog, particularly in a situation where it isn’t necessary, we’d be very quick to recognize that they didn’t “love” their dog in the way we normally mean love when referring to family members, friends, etc.
When Billie Eilish said you can’t love all animals while eating animals, she was pointing to a pretty clear conflict: claiming to love all animals while paying for some animals under the category of “all animals” to be bred, exploited, and killed so they can be eaten.
Just like it would be hard to accurately claim that a person who raised a dog only to kill and eat them at a fraction of their lifespan “loved” that dog, it is hard to defend the claim that you love all animals while supporting the same treatment toward other animals.
