On today's excursion, we came across a black racer, and boy was he a beast! In fact, this was the biggest racer snake I've ever come across!

Black racers are a super fast, nonvenomous, colubrid (none constricting) snake species, found commonly in the USA. Racer snakes in general are very common, and many species of racers can be found all over the world. The black racer is a specifically successful snake species, because they can live in urban areas, by escaping humans quickly, and preying on lizards and rodents. While these snakes are common, their size normally maxes out at just around 4-5 feet, whereas this snake was OVER 5 feet in length. While it is possible for them to reach 6 feet, it is very uncommon to see racers live to be that size, as well as have the proper genetics and available food to be capable of growing to that size, so I figured it's worth sharing!
