Don't make this mistake about dissolving! When you dissolve ionic compounds, the ionic bonds come apart and then atoms separate. When you dissolve covalent compounds, the covalent bonds do not come apart, and the molecules stay together. The is one of the most commonly made mistakes in chemistry, and it's a misconception that confuses many people.
