The hope of the believer is resurrection and immortality, like Jesus, the first fruit of resurrection to immortality. This first resurrection happens when Jesus returns.
Even though God is love, He is also just. He gives everybody a chance by giving them freewill to decide how they will live their lives. The second resurrection even gives hope for those who never heard about Jesus or never read a Bible. Those in the second resurrection are judged by how they lived their lives. In the second resurrection people are not judged by faith (Revelation 20:11-15).
A problem with the two literal resurrections only arises when you get rid of the Millennial reign, which Jesus told us was a very dangerous thing to do (Revelation 22:19).
