Bible John is the nickname for an unidentified serial killer believed responsible for the murders of three young women in Glasgow between 1968 and 1969. All three victims met their killer at the Barrowland Ballroom dance hall, and the perpetrator was said to quote scripture condemning adultery – earning him the moniker “Bible John”. Despite one of the largest manhunts in Scottish history, the case remains unsolved. Over the years, various suspects have been suggested (including serial killer Peter Tobin, later ruled out) . Recent Update: In 2023, a BBC true-crime podcast prompted Police Scotland to re-examine the cold case. The podcast alleged a police cover-up, claiming the killer may have been a man named John Irvine McInnes – a relative of a senior officer – whose identity was hidden. This new lead has given hope that modern investigation techniques might finally shed light on the Bible John mystery, though no definitive closure has been achieved yet.
