Developed by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and tech partners, the experimental 90-minute musical Life of Robots recently debuted, placing humanoid robots and human actors on stage together. Powered by a custom "cerebellum" control system designed for low-latency responses, robots like "Lingling" execute fluid movements, spontaneous gestures, and real-time dialogue with professional performers.

While creators acknowledge that machines currently imitate single emotions rather than true human spontaneity, the production serves as a groundbreaking cross-industry experiment. Beyond testing technical feasibility, the project prompts the performing arts to rethink identity, physical embodiment, and creativity in the era of human-machine integration.
