On normal Runescape, the hybrid armors are rewarded from different minigames and only give bonuses in SW, CW, Fight Pits and FoG. There are 3 sets and each one is amazing for 2 combat styles and horrible for the third(Vanguard is great for range/melee but it has major negatives in magic offense/defence).

In the beta they are no longer hybrid gear but they do have amazing bonuses. Each set is now the equivalent of a Nex armor set but with better stats. Vanguard is like torva, Trickster is like pernix, and Battle-mage is like virtus. It's a bit hard to tell, but I believe they also took out the 15% damage bonus that the sets had before.
Each part comes from a different minigame. In order to get parts you need to win games. The more wins, the more likely you are to get the item. Rough estimates of the # of wins to get your first piece listed below.
Helm - CW - 65
Top - Fight Pits - 250
Legs - SW - 110
Gloves - FoG - 110
Boots - PC - 500
