Thinking of buying a new camera in 2020? What were the best cameras that came out last year for filmmaking and video production? Film Jams brings you a list of the best cameras of 2019. The cameras we chose range from different companies to vastly different prices, so there’s something for everyone! What are the best cameras to buy in 2020? Let's take a look see!
Our first camera is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. What’s nice about this camera is that it’s very compact, so it’s a lot of power in one tiny camera body. It’s an evolution from the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, and has a new S35 sensor and EF mount. It shoots in ProRes 4K or 6K RAW and can create much crisper slo mo footage at 120 fps.
The next camera is the Canon C500 Mk II. This Canon camera can shoot internal RAW lite, and has a large format sensor. Another new feature is that it has an interchangeable PL and EF mounts, which is a first for the Canon cinema series.
Next is not just a camera, but a phone, too! The iPhone 11 Pro has an amazing new camera that has already been used to shoot a number of impressive films. The newest iPhone 11 camera adds a wide angle lens that will add some interesting framing options when filming on an iPhone.
Our next top camera of 2019 is the Sony FX9. This camera follows the Sony FS7 camera but has the added bonuses of a new full frame 6K sensor and the world’s first full frame electronic variable ND filter. It also has 180 fps shooting capabilities and Fast Hybrid AF with face detection.
Our second to last best camera is the Panasonic S1H. This is the first full frame Panasonic camera and can record 6K video at 24p and in 10 bit 4:2:2 sampling internally. This camera also has dual native ISO and autofocus during slow motion recording.
Our last camera of the year is the ARRI Alexa Mini LF. This improves upon the ARRI Alexa Mini with a large format sensor and true 4K recording, making it Netflix approved. This is on the higher end of cameras, and it’s pricey. But the Mini LF is one of the best cameras available right now and will surely be popular next year at the Oscar’s.
