BERSERKR WORKOUT - norse power yoga
FRIKAR yoga is inspired by how vikings, dancers and farmers have trained their bodies through the ages. Better burden can no man bear then a body full of wisdom. Now you can invest wisdom into your body for free. During lockdown we in @FRIKAR share training methods which have survived since the viking age.
With a mix of storytelling from the norse sagas and viking inspired functional training Hallgrim Hansegård leads us through this norse power yoga session on an intermediate to advanced level.
Today we focus on our ability of shapeshifting. From the viking age we have expressions like hamrammr = strong shape and einrammr = not of one shape. To change shape and state of mind and anima from one animal to another is highly appreciated in the Norse mythology.
O∂in was almost constantly taking new forms and he was called Grim by the ma∂r, the human beings. Grim means mask and is a symbol of shapeshifting. My name Hallgrim means stone mask which could be understood as strong shape, or hamrammr. So I’m seaching for living up to my name :)
Was hamrammr only to have a hard body? I believe it was more about being able to go fully into the force of one character of one animal power. It’s a bit like the force of Star wars, you need to dedicate your body, soul and mind to go into what you do.
Todays practise is preparing your body to take different forms. Forms which allow you to inspire yourself from animals just like the berserkr vikings did. It starts on a level which could do the job to loosen up your office back, and the movement games get more and more demanding through the session.
Hallgrim Hansegård is a internationally acclaimed choreographer and multiple national champion of halling dance. He learnt by the elders born in the 1920's and has extended his research to archaeological findings and ancient scriptures. Hallgrim has also studied similar traditions worldwide including 4 months in a Chinese kung fu temple, international yoga teacher education in India and multiple collaborations with capoeiristas in Brazil. He is also the leader of FRIKAR X, a national talent program for movement artists supported by the Norwegian state.
Hallgrim is a 27th generation direct descendant of king Harald Hardåde and 31st generation descendant of Ivar the Boneless, according to sagas the son of Ragnar Lo∂brok.
