FRIKAR VLOG 01/20: As the world spins against the Sun so do the dervish dancers of Turkey and Norwegian halling dancers too. In his first vlog of 2020 choreographer Hallgrim Hansegård brings you into the pre-research for his upcoming project «Motsols». This is a unique glimpse into a part of the creative process which choreographers seldom show, before the artistic direction is chosen. «Motsols» refers to spinning against the Sun, or counter-clockwise.
In this vlog Hallgrim brings you to Konya in the highlands of Asian Turkey where the prophet Rumi established the Whirling dervishes in the 13th century. He visits the dervish and contemporary dancer Ziya Azazi to learn the secrets of the whirling dervishes. During the stay Hallgrim improved his whirling maximum from 15 minutes to whirling all night, thanks to the lessons of Azazi and the spirit of Konya.
Thanks to Innlandet fylkeskommune for grants!
Film by Hallgrim Hansegård
Footage also by Tuba Ince, Erik Hennermann and Yngve Ask
«Draumkvedet» performed by Berit Opheim
