Globalization Amid Fragmentation – The Changing Role of Business in a Volatile World, with Larry Fink (Chairman & CEO, BlackRock) and Oliver Bäte (CEO & Chairman of the Board of Management, Allianz SE)

The global business landscape is rapidly changing as open markets and trade face challenges, supply chains shift, and the international multilateral system is being challenged. This session will explore the implications of a globalized but fragmented world for business and the role of business in driving transformations amid volatility.

Charting the Course: Global Strategies for the Energy Transition, with Jennifer Morgan (State Secretary and Special Envoy
for International Climate Action, Federal Foreign Office, Germany), Fatih Birol (Executive Director, International Energy
Agency), Luciana Costa (Managing Director of Infrastructure, Energy Transition & Climate Change, Brazilian Development Bank), Markus Krebber (CEO, RWE), Nathalie Oosterlinck (CEO, JERA Nex)

Despite the global expansion of renewable energy sources to nearly 15% of total energy consumption, fossil fuel use and energy-related emissions hit record levels in 2023. While advanced economies saw a peak in fossil fuel demand, emerging markets continue to drive overall usage due to rising energy needs. Ahead of COP29, this session will discuss the state of the global energy transition and explore the strategies to secure the financing required to accelerate the shift to carbon neutrality across all global regions.

How to Mobilize Private Investments for Innovation and Industrial Transformation, with Mohammed Al-Jadaan (Minister of Finance, Saudi Arabia), Christian Lindner (Minister of Finance, Germany), Emma Marcegaglia (Chair & CEO, Marcegaglia Holding)

The fostering of growth and innovation in economies across the world will require significant investment in the coming years and although public investment is important, much of this investment will come from private sources. With growing competition for private capital, this session will discuss the best practices to attract private capital for innovation and industrial transformation and actions required to ensure private investment contributes to broader national and regional strategies.
