DW News | What arguments does Israel have for launching a ground assault on Lebanon? | DW News @dwnews | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
Israel has launched more air strikes into Lebanon, after allies including the US and the EU called for a temporary cease-fire. Israel's aerial bombardments have claimed hundreds of lives this week. Israel says it is carrying out precision strikes against Hezbollah militants. There are indications that Israel is preparing the deployment of ground troops to Lebanon, to try and achieve what a vast number of air strikes haven't. Israeli officials say their aim is to push back Hezbollah and create a buffer zone in Lebanon's south. Tens of thousands have already fled from southern Lebanon.
