Ben Haenow Wins X Factor 2014, Wants Better Relationship With Father
Van driver Ben Haenow raced to victory last night as he was crowned X Factor winner.
The 29-year-old beat rival Fleur East, 27, in a thrilling final after being the second favourite all week.
Bursting with emotion he said: “Thank you so much for making my dreams come true. It’s been an amazing, talented year, with contestants like Fleur.”
Earlier Ben had performed Michael Jackson’s hit Man in the Mirror before his version of winner’s single Something I Need by One Republic.
The judges were delighted with his performance, with Simon Cowell gushing: “This is what you’ve waited for. Everything you’ve dreamed of, and this is what turning into a star feels like.”
And the panel’s Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said: “You chased your dream and Wembley are speaking for you. Drink it in. Enjoy your moment.”
But after storming to glory, Ben is now facing another challenge, as he works to heal a bitter rift with his father. He said: “I’d like to make peace with my dad. At the end of the day, I’m doing this for my family, especially my mum.”
Dad Mick is also keen to rebuild their relationship and admits he does not deserve a penny from his estranged son, who could rake in around £6million now that he has won the ITV talent contest.
Mick said: “The toughest thing for Ben was not having me. If there was a problem at school I wasn’t there. Even now, it hurts me just thinking about it. I wish I could’ve spent more time with them.
“I was a truck driver and it was hard for me to take time off. The only time I hear his voice is when I go and see him at The X Factor or call up the show to vote for him.”
He added: “It will be his mum who the money goes to. She will be top of his list and I don’t blame him. He grew up with her and he hasn’t grown up with me.”
Ben previously told the Mirror how he had turned to a bottle of vodka a day aged 14 as he struggled to cope with his home life.
