Unruly Chinese Air Passengers To Be Blacklisted
The Chinese government is planning to blacklist unruly air passengers as the country has witnessed an increase in the number of flights disrupted by disorderly passengers, the Beijing Times reports.
Li Jiaxiang, head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), announced the plan on Dec. 25 due to number of incidents involving Chinese passengers.
"The uncivil acts of four passengers on an Air Asia flight from Bangkok to Nanjing recently disrupted flights and reflected poorly on the image of all Chinese," Li said.
Four Chinese passengers got into an altercation with Air Asia flight attendants over seating arrangements on Dec. 11, with one woman throwing instant noodles at the crew and a man threatening to bomb the aircraft.
The incident led to the captain to turn around and return to Bangkok.
Aviation officials said authorities are still drafting the details regarding such a blacklist and that no timeline for its introduction has been decided.
Airline companies and airports are expected to broadcast videos promoting civilized travel in cabins and terminals, the paper reported.
Although every airline has its own blacklist, most of them do not effectively deter unruly behavior.
Passengers currently blacklisted by Shanghai-based budget carrier Spring Airlines can be rejected when they try to make a booking because the company has its own ticketing system, according to the newspaper.
Xu Lingjie, an associate professor at Civil Aviation Flight University of China, noted that the blacklist to be established by the CAAC will have more authority and can be easily enforced by linking the database with the ticketing system of TravelSky Technology, which is adopted by several carriers.
