By God, what I witnessed today,
The support amongst our heroes
Our champions of the GAA
Thousands came together
Lining the streets to cheer,
And Limerick knows how to celebrate
And this has certainly been their year!
Four in a row for our legends
A city filled today with pride,
As we honour the Liam mccarthy cup
With - Green and white on every side.
A homecoming like no other
Definitely today was one of a kind,
The flow of all the supporters
And - The best view you ever will find.
Laughing singing and connecting
Everyone there for just the same
To stand up and say we’re from Limerick
And - Don’t you ever forget our name!
The pride we felt even watching on
Being present wasn’t needed at all,
When limerick blood runs through your veins
You are mighty, feirce and tall…
Beyond the congratulations
And the respect we have for you,
What a game, a team , a moment lived
To appreciate all that you do!
Our all of Ireland - hurling champions
And so worthy of absolutely everything,
A birds Eye view to remember

50th Limerick International Band Championship – Overall winners Mullingar Town Band
25,000 people plus lined the streets of Limerick for Ireland’s only marching band competition After a gap of two years, the Limerick International Band Championship returned with 15 bands comprising around 800 musicians helping to lift the spirits of the more than 25,000 spectators who lined the streets of Limerick.
Bands from Limerick and across Ireland, the United States, the Netherlands, England, Northern Ireland, marched down Limerick city centre as part of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2022.
The band was presented with the Kenneally Jewellers Perpetual Trophy as overall winners of the championship.
The winners in the other categories were:
Best International Band – Toeternietoe Fest, Best, The Netherlands
Best Youth Band – Banna Cluain Meala, Clonmel, Tipperary
Best Local Band – City of Limerick Pipe Band
Best Musical Performance – Mullingar Town Band
Best Uniform – St Mary’s Fife and Drum Band, Limerick
Most Entertaining Performance – Friendship Band, Northern Ireland
Sammy Benson Award – Redemptorists Centre of Music Concert Band, Limerick
Special Judges’ Award (Colour Guard) – Cedar Rapids Metro Marching Band, Iowa, USA
Special Judges’ Award (Pipe Band) – Killorglin and District Pipe Band
Special Judges’ Award (Outstanding Instrumentalist) – Pyjama Band – lead trumpet player
Mullingar Town Band have been named as the overall winners of the 50th Limerick International Band Championship – Ireland’s only marching band competition.
Deputy Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Tom Ruddle said: “It was absolutely amazing, just exceptional musical talent on display. There was such high energy and high entertainment on show today. It was fantastic that we saw the return of the International Band Championship to the streets of Limerick. The people of Limerick came out in force again to support the bands.”
“Huge congratulations to all involved.”
Bands performed at the reviewing stand for three minutes as part of the judging process with the winners announced during a jamboree at Arthur’s Quay Park following the competition.
Performances at the 50th Limerick International Band Championship were judged by Captain Brian Prendergast, retired Irish Defence Forces, and Dr Evelyn Grant and Niall Carroll both from RTE Lyric fm.
The judge panel said: “The entire championship was really amazing, considering that these bands have been in a ‘deep freeze’ for the last two years. To have so many participants and in such great numbers, it was a really joyous occasion.”
“We knew the music would be good but the spirit of the festival was just extraordinary.”
“The crowd was in great form too, they really enjoyed the music.”
“One of the things that struck the judging panel was how marvellous the bands were. They really loved marching and performing and they were all so intergenerational, with one band having a seven-year-old pipe band major.”
Former members of the band led by Sammy Benson gave a special performance at the reviewing stand to honour the man who was synonymous with marching bands in Limerick. Sammy passed away in 2020, and this was the first time members of the band could gather to officially say goodbye.
The Limerick International Band Championship was part of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2022.
The Panoramic Wheel at Arthur’s Quay Park remains open until 21 April allowing you to soar above the city and take in the stunning 360 degree views across Limerick’s skyline on the spectacular 38 metre panoramic wheel. It’s sky-high fun for all the family.

The Florence Marathon (Italian: Maratona di Firenze) is an annual full-length marathon race held in late November in Florence, Italy, since 1984.
Course = 42.195 KM
Established in 1984, the international competition has significantly grown in size since its inaugural edition of 462 runners – a total of 10,211 runners started the 2010 edition, making it the second largest Italian marathon after the Rome City Marathon.

MEDALS
All athletes finishing the Marathon will receive the official medal of the Florence Marathon immediately at the conclusion of the race in the arrival area.

Services during the race
ASSISTANCE TO ATHLETES WHO WITHDRAW: A bus service will be available for athletes who withdraw to take them to the cloakroom and changing room service at Piazza Santa Maria Novella.
PACEMAKER
A free pacemaker service is provided for the following time : 3h15′ – 3h30′-3h45′- 4h00′-4h15′- 4h30′-4.45′- 5h00′ . At the start the pacers will be inside the start gate set up for each reference time, based on the bib number assigned. Their presence will also be signaled by balloons of various colours. It will be possible to meet pace makers on Saturday 25 November at the Marathon Expo
Medical and sanitary facilities
WC: WC are located in the departure area, in the arrival area, in the cloakroom area, and at refreshment points.
Health Service: Along the route, at every 5 km near the refreshment points, fixed stations with vans and ambulances staffed by specialized personnel for first aid will be set up by Misericordie and ANPAS. In collaboration with the BMW Motorclub of Florence, doctors onboard motorcycles will assist athletes along the entire route
Post-race services
FINAL REFRESHMENT with hot/cold beverages, fruits, and solid supplements, located in an area reserved for athletes only
Initial course
The course used in the inaugural race was about 965 m (3,166 ft) short.
From 2001 to 2009
From 2001 through 2009, the course began at Piazzale Michelangelo and had a zigzagging path through the centre. The bends and cobblestone roads made for a particularly difficult marathon and this led to the change in 2011 for an easier, faster race.
An AIMS-certified course, it was ineligible for world records due to an overall net drop of 75 m from 2001 to 2009, but the current course is now eligible.
From 2010 to 2011
The course used in 2010 and 2011 had a drop of 40 m (130 ft), which meant that it was eligible for records as it was within the drop limit of 1 m/km (5.3 ft/mi).
Current course
The course, which was first used in 2012, starts at the Lungarno Pecori Giraldi and finishes in Piazza Santa Croce. It passes through much of Florences historical town centre, with architecture dating from the 13th century, including: Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, and the Basilica of Santa Croce.
