A Super 8 film shot on the island park of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. It was shot in late August of 2014. This film gives a great representation of the majestic beauty of the island all at around 3 minutes.
I've always loved the Super8 film format as it not only looks cool/retro but it forces you to think about what's interesting and to shoot only that. You've got a little over 3 minutes to tell a great story and this is what is missing from the practically unlimited storage media of today. People no longer think about what's interesting they just shoot and at best maybe they can coble something together that's interesting. It would greatly benefit anyone to learn how to make a good film in Super8 before they touched anything digital.
The film used was Super8 AGFA 200 speed daylight color reversal. The film is extraordinary grainy when compared to the former de facto Super8 film, Kodachrome. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's the only color super8 film that can be projected and the extreme grain does give more of a retro feel to the finished product. However the quality is terrible when compared to Kodachrome or newer negative Super8 films which can't be projected. But it still gives you a great feeling seeing things in this format so I'll continue to use it.
The film was shot on a Bell and Howell 670/XL Camera.
