As part of the State Street project in New Haven, CT, a significant traffic shift was implemented overnight for the morning of 9/23/25. The existing 4-lane divided roadway was shifted into a 2-lane road all on one side of the medians with new lane striping and temporary traffic signals, to allow the contractor to begin building the improvements on the former northbound lanes. This new traffic pattern is now similar to how State Street used to look before the 1980s, when the former 2-lane city street was widened into 4 lanes as part of urban renewal, requiring the demolition of all buildings on the east side.
