Just some footage I shot during the big bunggul at Wallaby Beach, the final dance is the lightning dance. In the "Dreamtime" lightning struck a stringybark tree and some splinters fell into the ocean and became the monukpuy Galpu and other splinters fell inland and became the raypinybuy Galpu, that was the creation of the Galpu nation. That's why Lightning is such an important symbol to the Galpu, they are Baywara people, people of the Lightning. Baywara Power! That's the name of Larry Winiwini's football team in Gove :-)
The film crew shooting the ceremony was from Japan's NHK television network, their documentary is on lightning and they wanted to obtain indigenous perspectives on lightning. The Galpu were the obvious choice and Djalu the ideal personality!
A few funny moments in there as you can see and hear. I love the part where the dog barks twice, I think he was singing! I should ask what he was singing I suppose...
