Beginning Violin Improvisation. The 6 Essential Scales

When you are beginning to learn how to improvise on the violin the dozens of scales out there can be daunting. The job news is that you don't need to learn most of them. However, there are some essential scales that you really do need to know.

I made up this little exercise to teach myself the six basic scales and to understand how they relate to each other, By changing just one note at a time we progress from:

MAJOR to MIXOLYDIAN MODE, DORIAN MODE, NATURAL MINOR, HARMONIC MINOR and MELODIC MINOR scales.

I demonstrate the scales in D major ('cos it's easy) but you should then try the exercise in other keys.
