A female Smoky-winged Beetle Bandit Wasp (Cerceris fumipennis) pokes her head out of a hole in the trail at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, in Houston, TX, USA, checking around for danger for a couple of minutes before flying off to do whatever she does (probably hunting Buprestid beetles).
