With Dr. Jason Heald conducting the Umpqua Chamber Orchestra, violinist Alex DePue performs "Romance #2" for solo violin and orchestra by Beethoven.
"In my opinion, this work by Beethoven is one of the most beautiful compositions ever written. Romance #2 has been in my repertoire since my college years at Bowling Green State University, and at that time, was lucky enough to have studied and performed it with world-renowned pianist, Jerome Rose.
I'm absolutely thrilled to once again have had the opportunity to perform it last month in November of 2019... this time, with Dr. Jason Heald at the podium with The Umpqua Chamber Orchestra in Roseburg, Oregon.
For the violinist, it is a true test in bow control, intonation, tone (projection), artistry and phrasing. This performance was a dream come true for me, as is ANY occasion to perform with an orchestra, and serves a current example as to what are my current classical "chops"! (I am not often afforded this luxury these days (in favor for my lighter and more improvisational works, so I literally treasure each moment, even during rehearsal.)" - Alex DePue
