For the second movement of this Trio, Beethoven gives us a quaint but quite beautiful set of variations, a genre that he would continually use and prove to excel at through the rest of his life. Many latent possibilities hidden by the somewhat simplistic theme are explored in each of the variations, and the ending pages (7:42) are bittersweet all the way towards the movement's tender conclusion.
