Simple and delicious! We're having this tonight with some hot German potato salad and some red cabbage. Wunderbar!
Ingredients:
1 pack of 4 white German bratwursts (these were pre-cooked)
1 large onion, sliced
2 TBS salted butter
1 can of beer (lager or pilsner)
Directions:
1. In a skillet, melt the butter. Add the brats and brown over medium heat. Be careful not to split the cases open! Remove brats and set aside.
2. In the same skillet, add the onions--add more butter if you need to. Sautee the onions until desired doneness (8-10 minutes).
3. Add the brats back in. Pour in the beer to partially cover. Turn the heat down to a simmer. Cover and let simmer for 10-20 minutes.
4. Serve on a bun with some German whole grain mustard.
Another variation is to grill the brats after simmering in the beer.
