Podcasting has become a highly popular and increasingly accessible form of communication. But as avid podcast fans will know, some are great, and others, well, kind of miss the mark. On October 14, 2020, the Alberta Emerald Foundation held the Tell Your Story Webinar, Becoming a Podcast Pro, which featured #EmeraldAwards2020 finalists Chris Chang-Yen Phillips & Trevor Chow-Fraser (Let's Find Out Podcast) and Derek Leahy (Rural Routes to Climate Solutions), plus Alberta-based blogger Linda Hoang and our very own What On EARTH Can We Do? co-host Colleen Nuc.
Let’s Find Out is a podcast about Edmonton, Alberta – aka Amiskwaciwâskahikan – on Treaty Six territory. In each episode, the producers take questions from curious Edmontonians about local history and then find out the answers together. Let’s Find Out is a member of the Alberta Podcast Network. The show has tackled questions about everything from green onion cakes and grizzly bears to Alberta's eugenics program and a newspaper published by the Ku Klux Klan in Edmonton. In 2019, they dedicated an entire season to explore how humans and nature have shaped each other in the city. In 2020, Let’s Find Out was shortlisted in the Public Education & Outreach category at the 29th Annual Emerald Awards.
Chris Chang-Yen Phillips is the host/producer of Let's Find Out. Chris describes himself as a storyteller and people weaver. He works as Podcasting Coordinator at CJSR 88.5 FM, and previously served as Edmonton’s 4th Historian Laureate. He has also produced podcasts and print stories for CBC, The Well Endowed Podcast, and Vue Weekly.
'Let's Find Out producer Trevor Chow-Fraser is a writer, audio producer, and graphic designer. He currently works as Program Lead (Marketing & Communications) for the University of Alberta’s Sustainability Council.
