Manchester City Council have decided to remove the cycle lanes from Great Ancoats Street as a part of a renewal of the road network... with a promise of a parallel route down back streets.
Cyclists across Manchester protested to show that it is unacceptable to go back to 20th century planning approaches with cars at the top of the pecking order, and that an integrated traffic system (which includes people travelling and commuting by bicycle) is the proper way to proceed!
After all, the road redesign to deal with peak congestion... and what better way to deal with congestion, but to make it desirable to cycle on good cycling infrastructure.
If you build it... they WILL come and use it!
