Lost Battlefields w Tino Struckmann | BATTLEFIELD HEL(L) - THE FINAL STAND IN THE FOREST OF BUNKERS special episode @tinostruckmann | Uploaded 8 months ago | Updated 6 hours ago
One of the most amazing fortified places in the world is the peninsula of Hel, the entire land mass is littered with bunkers, tunnels large, small and super large gun positions. It was the site of the longest battle of the opening of WW2. where a small group of Polish soldiers held out against the entire German army, Luftwaffe and Navy bombardment for over a month.
The Polish constructed amazing battlements here, and after the German continued, this was the site where the largest Cannon positioned on land during WW2 was first installed in huge gun pits. With enormous observation bunkers, here the Germans trained their U-boat crews and after the second world war, the construction continued for the cold war with more coastal gun positions.
You often ask me which are my favorite place to explore, Hel is on top of that list, A walk in the woods here is a journey through one large fortified battlefield, you simply have to see this. I am trying to contain the fortifications of the second world war in the first episode, and the cold war construction in the second, but many of the old were also used and repurposed for the cold war, in ways you have never before seen.
So Join me we are going to Hell!
