There are days i asked to myself, why does Battlefield 1942 have an excellent fleshed out WW1 Mod (BF1918) but BF2 doesn't? I've been searching high and low for a WW1 mod in the BF2 community for years and sadly, i've seen old WW1 mod projects that never got released, but you know what? im pretty sure those canceled WW1 mods woulda been MUCH better than this one im showcasing here today..
This supposedly is a mod that tries to replicate Battlefield 1..
Well, "Trying" would be an understatement, because there is almost NOTHING that screams Battlefield 1 here in this mod, AT ALL.
Why you may ask? I'll show you.
First, the only things here that show its a Battlefield 1 inspired mod here (barely) are the menus, loading screens, loadout UI, some voicelines and the weapons, THAT IS IT.
The 9 maps the mod includes in are actual maps from Forgotten Hope 2, a WW2 mod for BF2.
So, technically, THIS is the first Forgotten hope 2 mod, yup..
A mod for a standalone mod for BF2 (rolls off your tongue, is it?)
As for gameplay..? Its an unstable mess:
- Constant CTD's, trying to use the Bandage to heal yourself up? that's a guaranteed crash..i once found a horrific player model glitch when killed (watch the gameplay further to find it)
Vehicle combat in this mod is BROKEN and NON EXISTENT:
- (Baffingly you can only find vehicles in 1 single map, Lebisey) but they quickly become completely worthless, because the moment you get inside in one of them, THE WHOLE MOD CRASHES..so, that's fantastic.
The mod is plagued with severe inconsistencies when it comes to the Battlefield 1 setting its based on, the mod reuses FH2 assets like Soldier models, flags, vehicle models , props..to even actual handheld weapons..i found a Walther P38 pistol in one of the loadouts..proof that the mod developer didn't even bothered in putting any effort at all in this.
IN SHORT: It is broken, unstable, inconsistent with its BF1 theme setting, plagued with bugs, unsatisfying to play and pretty much a terrible experience all around.
THE FINAL SCORE FOR THIS "BATTLEFIELD 1 MOD" IS A VERY LOW 1/10!
It is singlehandedly, the worst BF2/FH2 mod that i ever played, and hopefully someone out there in the future can make a WW1 themed mod for Battlefield 2 better than this garbage. DO NOT PLAY IT! Do not waste your GB space into this cobbled together mess of a mod, IT IS NOT WORTH IT!
