Japan at War | Battle Of Myeongnyang - The Imjin War - Episode 51 @JapanatWar | Uploaded October 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
The Battle of Myeongnyang happened on October 26, 1597 (September 16 according to Chinese lunisolar calendar, September 13 according to Korean lunisolar calendar). It was easily on of the greatest naval victories for the Joseon Dynasty, perhaps even in the whole world.
Previously in The Battle of Chicheollyang, Won Gyun, the Naval Commander at the time made a series of bad decisions and lost most of the Korean fleet. This left Yi Sun Sin with only 13 ships to try and stop the Japanese from reaching the Yellow Sea.
