Battle of Britain Anniversary Sheffield 15/09/2024 This remembrance service for the battle of Britain commemorates those who died in the aerial battle of June to October 1940. Whilst pilots who had roots in South Yorkshire have their names read out, we do also commemorate those who died in 616 South Yorkshire Squadron which, both at Leconfield and Kenley and then finally back to Kirton on Linsdey saw action throughout the Battle. The Squadron lost one third of their pilots in combat.
It is an annual commemoration service and gives a chance for the Air Cadets to march and honour their forebears. We are also grateful to all the dignitaries who come each year to lay wreaths and take the salute and greetings of those participating.
