I'm sure this one will be of little interest to anyone who didn't fight in the American civil war, but it has some sentimental value to me. Back in grade school we were forced to take music class. We mostly sang old folks like the stuff Stephen Foster wrote and this one. This is one I didn't mind singing, though I usually didn't actually sing it. I lip-synched. Singing in public was too embarrassing for me. People shouldn't be forced to sing. It's a personal matter.
Though not an exciting piece to listen to, it is still worth a guitar student's attention. It's one of Mario's easier pieces and it's a good example of his approach to arranging. And most people under 30 may still have grandparents. They might like it.
